Cary Dean Abegg

June 3, 1954 – October 9, 2025

Cary Dean Abegg, born on June 3, 1954, in Tucson, Arizona, passed away on October 9, 2025 in Spanish Fork, Utah at the age of 71. Though soft-spoken, his actions spoke volumes—marked by hard work, devotion to family, deep faith, and a profound appreciation for life’s simple joys.

Raised beneath the desert sun of Tucson alongside his sisters Debbie, Melanie, and Leslie, and his brother David, Cary’s early years were filled with exploration and adventure. He spent his boyhood riding horses and working beside his father and uncles—veterans of World War II—he helped build family homes in Arizona and Utah, gaining lifelong lessons in craftsmanship, diligence, and service.

At 19, Cary served a two-year mission in Minnesota for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Upon returning home, he earned a bachelor’s degree in education while supporting his young family—a true testament to his perseverance and determination.

Settling in Orem, Utah, in the cherished family home of his grandmother, Cary found his career as an elementary school teacher. Though never content with being idle, Cary also successfully started a carpet-cleaning business that he would find passion in outside of the classroom. Through his hard work and perseverance, he taught his children the value and satisfaction of a job well done.

Between 1989 and 1992, Cary was often seen riding western show horses in the Provo Freedom Festival Parade. Aside from his keenness for horses, Cary found joy in helping his sons with Scouts, chasing the perfect view of BYU’s fireworks, and sharing his passions for bodybuilding, cars, and the outdoors.

Cary was most himself outside in his bucket hat, long sleeves, and work pants—tending to his yard or fixing something around the house, no matter how hot the day. His acts of love and service built a legacy affecting the next generations.
Cary was preceded in death by his father, Dean Abegg, and his brother, David Abegg. He is survived by his children Dane (April), Skyler (Cat), Ariel (Scott), Hadassah (Anton), Simon, and Clancy (Steven); his mother, Olga Abegg; and his sisters Leslie Whitman, Melanie Morris, and Debbie Waters.

Cary (and his incredible mustache) will be remembered with love. He will be missed. May he ride his old horse, White, alongside his loyal German Shepherd, Zar, through heaven’s clouds, watching over all those he cherished.

In the words of Jesus: “Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” Matthew 25:21
