Cleo "Barbara" Park Patterson Obituary (1923

Cleo “Barbara” Park Patterson, age 94, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018, at the home of her son in Mapleton, Utah. Barbara was born on April 4, 1923, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Hortense Dean Park and William “Bill” Park. A short time later she moved with her mother to Beaver, Utah and lived with her grandparents and her 4 cousins, who became like siblings. She had a wonderful childhood in Beaver surrounded by many uncles, aunts and cousins. In high school Barbara was involved in the marching band and played the saxophone. In high school she was chosen as the Harvest Queen and enjoyed spending time with friends. She graduated from Beaver High School in 1940. Barbara met a handsome young man named Clark Patterson who was three years older than her. After dating for a while Clark was drafted into the Army so they were married on January 15, 1941, before he left. Their marriage was later solemnized in Manti Temple on October 28, 1967. Over the next twelve years they added three children to the family: Cecelia Ann, Clark “Lynn”, and Michael Ray. Their children are eternally grateful to be born to such a wonderful, loving couple who taught them well and prepared them for life. They are so excited to be an eternal family. In 1960 the family moved to Provo, Utah where Clark continued to work on the Union Pacific Railroad. Barbara made a loving home for her family and for her mother who moved in with them. Barbara loved to cook and shared this talent with many children as she worked in the school lunch program in Provo for 19 years. Her “sweet tooth” is legendary in our family, especially for chocolate. Her family was always blessed to enjoy her cinnamon rolls, chocolate cake, and fruit cake at family gatherings and at Christmas time. A visit to grandma’s house wasn’t complete without a game of cards and several treats from her crystal candy bowl. Barbara crocheted beautiful baby shawls for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Barbara was a wonderful and compassionate woman, a loving caregiver, a great homemaker, and a hilarious and adoring foxy grandmother. Barbara is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in the Sunday School, Young Women’s and Relief Society. She did extraction work back in the day before computers. After 54 years living in her Provo home she moved to Mapleton in 2014 to live with her son Lynn and daughter-in-law Paulette. The family would like to thank Lynn and Paulette for their dedicated care and love for our beloved mother and grandmother. We are also grateful for the tender care given to her by Bonnie, Joy Lyn, Lorna, and Debbie from Elevation Hospice. Barbara was preceded in death by her eternal companion, who passed away in 1983, her mother in 1988, and her daughter, Cecelia, who passed away in 2006. She is survived by her son Lynn (Paulette Hyer) Patterson of Mapleton, Utah; son Michael (Mary Christensen) Patterson of Salem, Utah; 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren who lovingly call her G.G. She is also survived by her best friend and cousin, Vivian Dalley. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Mapleton Stake Center, 970 North 400 East, Mapleton, Utah. Friends may visit from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services.
