David W. Nuttall, age 79, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle passed away January 27th, 2024, surrounded by his family and friend.
Dave was born on March 9th, 1944, in Provo, Utah to Thomas Leland Nuttall and Madge Lucas Nuttall. Dave was the fourth child of 10. After Dave’s father passed at the young age of 59, Dave and his brothers worked together to help raise his younger siblings. He attended Orem High School, graduating in 1962. Dave was very proud of taking third in the state wrestling championship. He was drafted into the Army in 1962 where he was a member of the US Army wrestling and football team.
Before starting his own general contracting company Dave worked for Burt Cloward and Dean & Peay. Building was a passion for Dave and he always liked to show off the homes he built for his family and the buildings he worked on.
In 1970 he married the love of his life Sherry Young. Dave and Sherry made the perfect team and had 5 children Tod (D’Ambra), Quinn, Chad (Missy), Chanda and David (Kari). Together they built a strong family and several beautiful homes.
After retiring from construction, Dave went on to become the Head of Maintenance for the Courtyard Marriott. He enjoyed the people he worked with tremendously until he finally retired in 2015.
Anyone who knew Dave knew how much he loved his family and that he had a work ethic that was unmatched. Dave was unbelievably strong and that strength was shown when he was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease. He handled it like no other and wouldn’t let it hold him back from doing anything. When most people would have given up, he persevered, always joking that the doctor had given him a prescription to golf daily. He absolutely loved to golf and was able to play on courses all over the country. David was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing several different sports in city and church leagues.
The Man, The Myth, The Legend doesn’t even begin to describe David. He was so much more and lived his life with honesty and integrity. His family meant the world to him and he idolized his dear wife. His granddaughter Harley gave birth to his great grandson Owen who was the light of his life during the final few months. He nicknamed him Speedo. He will forever be missed.
David is survived by his wife and 4 kids, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren brothers and sisters Arelene, Gene (Charlene), Tom (Sharon), Peggy and Jim Hopkinson, Ron (Leslie), Janene and Chad Curtis, Marcie and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, son Quinn, sister Linda and brothers Larry and Floyd his best friend.
The family would like to acknowledge and give gratitude to Jane Bullock, a close family friend that stood by his side to the very end. In lieu of flowers due to there being no graveside services, the family asks that monetary donations be made to Venmo@Sherry-Nuttall for Parkinsons Research.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the Berg Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center Street, Provo, Utah. The family will receive friends at the mortuary Friday, February 2, from 6-8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10-10:50 a.m. prior to services. Condolences may be extended at www.bergmortuary.com.
