With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Dieudonné Martial, who departed this world peacefully on April 18, 2026, just days after celebrating his 79th birthday. Born on April 6, 1947, in the historic city of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Dieudonné was a beacon of serenity, service, and strength to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Dieudonné was the eldest son of the late Jean André and Georgette Beauvais Martial. He was blessed with a large and loving family and was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gladys Montrose Martial, with whom he shared 47 meaningful years of marriage. Together, they built a home grounded in love, learning, and devotion to God and family. They were sealed for eternity in the Washington DC temple. He later married Monise Pierre St. Louis.
A devoted father, Dieudonné’s legacy lives on through his children—Marc-Aurel Martial (Cempaka), Jean-Philippe Martial (Beth), Michaëlle Martial, and Johanne D. Martial Schirck (Paul), as well as his honorary daughter, Joanna Joseph, whom he and Gladys raised as their own from the age of six. His heart was further filled by his ten grandchildren—Lévi L. Martial, Christine M. Martial, A. John Martial, Renée Martial-Vann, Christian M. Martial, Marie-Laure A. Martial-Vann, Yaël B. Martial-Vann, Dhiren T. Martial, Jean-Philippe Martial Jr., and Dahlia S. Martial—and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jean André and Georgette Beauvais Martial; his brothers Jean Antoine Martial, Emmanuel Martial, and Yves Martial; an un-named infant sibling who died at birth; and his beloved granddaughter, Nathalie J. Martial-Vann. He is survived by his siblings Désinor Martial, Jean Théodore Martial, and Marie Carmel Martial, who will continue to cherish his memory.
A man of deep faith and integrity, Dieudonné was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he found both community and purpose. He was among the early pioneers of the Church in Haiti and served faithfully in many callings, including District President and later as Patriarch in the country’s first stake, the Port-au-Prince Haiti Stake. His life was a testament to his commitment to service, generosity, and the power of family.
Professionally, Dieudonné was a meticulous archivist and land surveyor for the Haitian General Directorate of Taxation, where he served for over a decade before retiring. He also shared his passion for learning as a math teacher/tutor at Collège Lucien Hibbert. He pursued various entrepreneurial ventures in order to support and provide for his family’s temporal needs.
Dieudonné was a pillar of his community and a guiding light to his extended family and friends. He will be deeply missed by those whose lives he touched, including Edner Jean Baptiste and his family, Marie Ange Auguste, Marie Michelle Magré, Yves Mackenson Berry, Jean Junior Herve Berry, and close friends—Marc Édouard Joseph; Fritzner and Gina Joseph; Dr. Elie Nicolas; Dr. Wiener Damour (Dr. Nènè); Françoise Pierre; Eddy Bourdeau; Kenney and Suze Augustin; Pierre Dartiguenave; and Johns Diegue.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Neuro ICU at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah, for their compassionate care during Dieudonné’s final hours. They are also thankful to all, including the Haitian Branch in Provo, Utah, who have offered love and support during these challenging times.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, 28 April 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the East Bay 3rd Branch, 424 W 1200 S, Provo, Utah. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery, 1520 N 800 E, Orem, Utah. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.bergmortuary.com.
As we gather to celebrate the life of Dieudonné Martial, we remember him as a man of conviction, humility, and deep generosity. His legacy will live on in the lives he shaped and the love he shared. He will forever remain in our hearts.
