Today, we celebrate the extraordinary life of Donna Jayne Muir Ashworth, a woman of strength, love, and devotion. Donna was born on January 29, 1932, in Milford, Utah to Albena Edwards and David Leonard Muir. She passed away January 15, 2025, in Orem, Utah.
Life brought early challenges, including the loss of her baby brother, David, and her parents’ divorce when she was three. Donna and her sister, Lois Rae, found a loving home with their grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Gale Muir, who became a guiding light in their lives.
Donna attended Milford Elementary and Junior High. She met her lifelong love, Don Bill Ashworth at a school dance. They married Christmas eve in 1947, Donna just 15 years old, Don 18.
Their early years as a couple were marked by hard work and dedication. Moving to Provo for Don’s job at Geneva Steel, they soon welcomed their first child, Christy Lynn, followed by Larry Don. Donna balanced her roles as a devoted mother and a part-time waitress at Clair Van during Provo’s cold winters, Together, she and Don embraced community, joining a square dance group and making cherished memories.
Donna pursued her education at a vocational school in Provo, studying business and later working at W.F. Woolworth and Signetics, where she mastered the intricate craft of making integrated circuits. Her strong work ethic shone brightly, whether at Signetics or later as a school lunch lady and employee at ZCMI.
After raising their children, Donna and Don discovered a shared love of travel, exploring new places and building a lifetime of memories. Tragically, Don passed away in 1988, leaving a void in Donna’s life. However, her faith gave her strength. In 1994, she received her temple endowments at the Jordan River Temple and was sealed to Don in the Provo Temple, a testament to her enduring love and devotion.
Donna’s later years were marked by service and compassion. As a temple worker, she found joy and purpose in helping others. Her legacy is one of kindness, determination, and unwavering love for her family.
Donna Janyne Muir Ashworth leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a family deeply grateful for her enduring love. Her story reminds us to face life’s challenges with grace and to treasure the moments we share with those we hold dear.
