Dorothea "Doris" Gabbitas
March 15, 1941 - October 12, 2026
Dorothea "Doris" Gabbitas, 85 passed away October 12, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Born on March 15, 1941, in war-torn Germany during World War II, Doris overcame tremendous hardships with strength and resilience. She endured tyranny and hunger and emerged with a tenacious spirit that would define her entire life.
Known for her lively debates, quick wit, and fierce love, Doris was always ready to help others. She shared her warmth through laughter, German cooking, baking, and crafting. She was always willing to lend a hand and give her time and devotion to those in need.
She was the life of every room she entered - always joking, always engaged, and always with something to say. A natural conversationalist, Doris had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. Her hands were never idle, always creating something beautiful and often giving her creations away to others.
Doris knew both hardships and the joys that life could bring. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas, who passed away in 2012, and her son Karl, who passed in 2004. In her remaining years, she shared her life with her loving partner, Bruce Linger, finding companionship, affection and someone to share life's everyday moments with.
She is survived by her devoted daughter Lisette (and husband Michael LeDuc); her cherished grandchildren Matthew, Breanne (and her husband Cole Burgess), and Danielle (and her husband Jordan Olsen); and great grandchildren Ethan, Oakley, Wyatt, Luke, and Matti. She also leaves behind her loving partner, Bruce Linger; and all those whose lives were made brighter by knowing her. Each carries a piece of her spirit and will continue to feel her presence in every laugh, every story, every spirited debate, and every lovingly prepared meal.
Doris was a woman of remarkable strength, warmth, humor, and unwavering love. She was never one to sit quietly on the sidelines of life. She lived boldly, loved fiercely, and gave generously. Her legacy is not only found in the things she created or the hardships she overcame, but in the people she loved and the countless ways she showed up for them.
Though her voice may now be quiet, her spirit will never be forgotten. Her resilience lives on in the strength of her family, her humor in their laughter, and her love in the kindness they share with others.
She was our Doris, our Oma, and truly one of a kind. She will be deeply missed and loved forever.
