Douglas Robert Anderson (fondly known as Dougie for most of his life) was born in a small Catholic hospital in Quezon City, Metro Manila, the Philippines, on 15 November 1985. His parents were Neil J Anderson and Kathleen Reaser. He had 4 older siblings: Cameron Neil, Todd James, Amelia Kathleen, and Ryan Dale. His time on earth came to an unexpected end on Monday, 22 December 2025.
Doug’s first home was in Manila, the Philippines, where his father was working in a two-year refugee program for the U.S. State Department. Just a few months after he was born, the family moved back to the United States, locating in Austin, Texas, where his father would be completing his doctorate degree. Doug spent 3 years in Texas.
The next move was to Athens, Ohio in 1989, where his father began a job teaching at Ohio University. Doug and his family lived in a historical two-story home in The Plains, Ohio for 8 years, making many friends and playing with his brothers in the fields and woods surrounding his home. It was in Ohio that Doug first learned to ride a bike, participate in Cub Scouts and play the violin. During 3 summers, Doug and his family participated in the Hill Cumorah Pageant in Palmyra, New York.
In 1997 Doug and his family moved again. This time the move was across the country to Orem, Utah, where his father would be teaching at Brigham Young University in Provo. Doug had a rough start in 6th grade at Vineyard Elementary School in Orem, trying to make new friends and feel like he fit in. He attended Lakeridge Junior High where he learned to play Lacrosse and was on a team with his brother, Ryan. He attended Mountain View High School and spent his junior year in San Jose, Costa Rica with his parents, completing his courses through BYU Continuing Education. While in Costa Rica he spent time kayaking in the ocean and even bungee-jumping off a bridge! He graduated from Mountain View High School in 2004. After high school Doug worked at a ranch near Stanley, Idaho for the summer, then at a ski resort in Vermont.
On 4 May 2007 Doug married Molly McTeer in the Salt Lake Temple. They had known each other at Mountain View High School. They had 3 children together: Emyli Amanda, Caleb Douglas, and Ruby Mae. [Doug and Molly divorced in 2020 but remained in a close and supportive relationship.]
Doug’s work experience was varied—food production at the Stouffer’s plant; laying pipe all over Salt Lake and Utah Valley for the VanCon and Sunroc Companies; putting together a scone food truck; and team lead of lined products for the Geneva Pipe Company. He worked hard. He did his work faithfully in all sorts of weather conditions and he did it well.
Doug took college classes when possible with the hope of one day teaching science and math. He had a love of learning and taught his children about the different rocks and minerals and of his love of the outdoors. They hiked and camped in the beautiful Utah mountains and in State and National Parks. His love of the outdoors led him to start trail running—which was a great form of exercise for his mind and body. He ran the trails high up in the mountains and along the ridges. He ran the Grand Canyon—from one side to the other. In February of 2023 he broke his right ankle and the trail running ended.
Doug will be remembered for his sense of humor, his loud laugh, his love of music, his long locks of hair, his handle-bar mustache, his jorts, his love for his children, and his ability and willingness to serve others. He will be dearly missed by his family and his friends.
