Farrell G Badger

–

Mapleton, Utah

Farrell G Badger, 72, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Mapleton, Utah, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Farrell was born on February 25, 1953, in Burley, Idaho, to Harvey Badger and Florence Marvella Goodliffe. He grew up with his siblings Norman, Carolyn, and Karla in southern Idaho. He vividly remembered their small white house near Rupert, where he learned faith in God, the value of effort, the joy of music, and learning. He spoke of those early years with immense gratitude and love for his parents and siblings.

As a young man, Farrell found opportunities to learn and serve at home, church, and school. He graduated from high school in Chelan, Washington, where he earned a Presidential Scholarship to Brigham Young University. The scholarship was deferred while he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Colorado–New Mexico Mission. His mission deepened his testimony of the Savior, the gospel, and strengthened his love for others.

Upon his return, he attended BYU in Provo, Utah, where he met the love of his life, Catherine Anna Flikeid. From their earliest conversations, he was drawn to her faith, warmth, and kindness. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Manti Utah Temple on April 23, 1976. Together they built a beautiful home for their children and grew closer through the blessings and challenges of parenthood and life.

Upon graduation, Farrell worked as an explosives engineer, a career he found both challenging and rewarding. He took pride in doing things right and earned the respect of those he worked alongside for his integrity, precision, and dependability. He viewed his work as a way to provide for his family and to serve others. He was deeply grateful for the opportunities it gave him throughout his life. He traveled extensively for work, occasionally with his dear wife, but always preferred being home with family.

Service was central to Farrell’s life. He gave freely of his time and energy in the Church, his community, and his home, serving with faith and honor. He magnified his callings and loved the people he served, focusing on the one. He found joy in ministering to others and prayed fervently for those entrusted to him. In 2023, Farrell and Catherine had the sacred opportunity to serve together as Temple Construction Missionaries for the Special Projects Department in Anchorage, Alaska. They had just extended their mission for another 16 months to coincide with the completion of the new Anchorage Alaska Temple when Farrell was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer. Their mission was a joyful culmination of their lifelong service to the Lord.

Farrell enjoyed backpacking, camping, and the great outdoors as a young man. He found joy in working with his hands and growing a garden, a love passed down from his father and cherished by his children. His garden was planned with little ones in mind, and with plenty for neighbors and friends. Home was where he devoted his energy; his greatest joy was his family. He was a true creator at heart -there wasn't a single corner of his home or yard he hadn't lovingly built, remodeled, or repaired. His hands were always busy, and his passion for building and improving things was a reflection of how deeply he cared for the people around him. He was a devoted husband and father who led by calm, gentle example. He taught his children to know their worth, to serve, work hard, do what is right, and to trust in the Lord. He found happiness in simple moments, time outdoors, family dinners, and working on projects both large and small. He welcomed his children into every project, guiding them with quiet joy and steady hands. He took great pleasure riding bikes with his wife both locally and as they traveled, especially in nature.

Farrell endured life’s challenges with patience, persistence, and gratitude. His faith in eternal families never wavered, and he found peace in the assurance that love continues beyond this life.

Farrell is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine A. Badger, and ten of their children: Anna L. Seelos (Daniel), Amy L. Hedquist (Brent), Ryan M. Badger, Rachel M. Roundy (Patrick), Jesse E. Badger (Toni), Aaron I. Badger (HaLee), Laurel A. Kidd (Dan), Joel A. Badger, Ammon G. Badger, and Heather R. Brotherson (Branson), along with 27 treasured grandchildren.

He is also survived by his siblings Norman, Carolyn, and Karla. He was preceded in death by his parents and eldest son, Jared Ephraim Badger, whose memory he carried tenderly. His family finds comfort in knowing he has been joyfully reunited with them and so many other loved ones.

Our deepest appreciation to the doctors, nurses, aids, and chaplains at Utah Valley Hospital and Intermountain Health Hospice.
