George “Keith” Stewart, who was a wonderful Son, Husband, and Father who truly valued his Family, passed away on December 15, 2015 in Provo, Utah. Born August 12, 1928 to George Earl (Judd) Stewart and Atha Leisle Murdock in Provo, Keith grew up in a home filled with love and surrounded by dozens of beloved uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Keith was a gifted athlete throughout his life enjoying mostly baseball and basketball in his youth. After attending Provo City public schools, Keith graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Chemistry. Keith began his career with U.S. Steel at the Geneva Works in Metallurgical, Chemical, and Inspection Department. In 1960 he was awarded the position of Chief Chemist at the Geneva Works. He held that position until his retirement in 1987 and then remained on as a consultant until 1989.
He met Nancy Taylor when they were in Junior High School and they were sealed in the Manti Utah Temple, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on June 26, 1952. Nan preceded Keith in death on May 6, 2015.
Sports were always an important part of their lives. Keith liked to hunt pheasant and go fishing and always wanted to find out what was over that hill. He was also a great racquetball player. Golf was a sport that Keith and Nan both enjoyed together. You could find them most evenings at Riverside Golf Course. Both Keith and Nan liked to follow BYU sports. They held season tickets to Football and Basketball games.
They lived for almost 50 years in the home they built overlooking the Provo Temple in Oak Hills. They loved their neighborhood family. Keith was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all his life and served in many positions, often with the youth in the Church. Keith was also the Ward and Stake Clerk for many years. Music was a great love of Keith’s and he was a member of the ward choir for dozens of years.
They are parents of 3 sons and a daughter: Brent (Karen Gardner) of Provo, Utah; Kim, who passed away in October of 2012, of Omak, Washington; Jan (Kevin Schindler) of Woodland Hills, Utah; and Jon (Lisa Monney) of Springville, Utah. They have 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren who all loved Keith for his kindness and dedication to them. Keith also has a brother: David M. Stewart (JoAnn) of Fountain Green, Utah.
Keith was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Nancy Taylor; his son, Kim; and his parents-in-law, Arthur Dixon Taylor and Maurine Goodridge Taylor.
