Ireta Troth Midgley, born October 5, 1935, passed away February 3, 2014 at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital, from unexpected complications following surgery.
Ireta was raised by her parents, Dorothy and Alfred Troth, in Bountiful, Utah. She graduated from Davis High School and the University of Utah. She married Louis Midgley in Bern, Switzerland, on September 16, 1955. On that same day, they were the first couple sealed in the LDS Zollikofen Temple. They then lived in Mannheim, Germany, for nine months prior to returning to Salt Lake City, where they both continued their university training at the University of Utah, and then for four years in Providence, Rhode Island, where her husband was finishing his Ph.D. at Brown University.
Ireta, a fine homemaker, enjoyed directing the Young Mothers High School in the Provo School District for more than 20 years. Upon her retirement, she served with her husband, a glorious two years (1999-2000) in New Zealand, where they directed the Lorne Street LDS Institute in Auckland for Church Education. Previously she served as Branch, Ward and Stake Relief Society President, and in numerous other callings. Ireta was a truly faithful Latter-day Saint.
Ireta is a devoted mother of three children: Matthew (Kaelene), Martin (Valerie) and Sara (Keith) Cope. She has 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
