Isabella Alexandra Martin, nee Deidra Anderson, passed away unexpectedly on February 9, 2019 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is survived by her daughters Heidi Mitchell Bennett and Ashley (Troy) Newby along with eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a brother, Jarrett Anderson of Glendale, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elvin and Melba Anderson, and by a brother, Scott Anderson.
She was born August 25, 1948 in Provo, Utah. She attended Provo High School and Brigham Young University. She married Bert Mitchell in the Salt Lake Temple on June 1, 1965: later divorced.
Isabella had an amazing enthusiasm for life. If there was a party, she wanted to be there. She had a big personality, an infectious smile and laughed often. She loved music, all kinds of music, and remembered the lyrics to songs old and new. She loved to dance and could “shake a leg” with the best. She doted on her children and grandchildren and reveled in their achievements. She was so very proud of each of them, of the people they had become, and loved to celebrate their successes and accomplishments.
Isabella had a great capacity for caring about others and was a loving, loyal friend, and neighbor. Her work in the community included serving the homeless population, as a patient advocate, for ten years, with Valley Mental Health’s Safe Haven. Isabella converted to Catholicism in 1982, and took comfort in worshiping at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, in Salt Lake City, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.
We will miss her, but find strength in the knowledge that she is in a better place and that we will see her again. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate her remarkable life will be held at a later date.
