James Wylie McCloud

–

Provo, Utah

James Wylie McCloud unexpectedly passed away in his sleep on November 1, 2013. He was born in Joliet, Ilinois on December 2, 1940 to Albert Oliver McCloud, Sr. and Jean Gairns Grant. He was a graduate of Joliet Township High School and Joliet Junior College. He attended Brigham Young University, and graduated with a B.S. in Zoology in 1963. Soon after he became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On October 16, 1964 he married Susan Evans in the Salt Lake Temple. They have six children. He worked as a high school and junior high school teacher and principal in Illinois and Utah, as an insurance agent, and most recently as Membership Director of the Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce.

A proper Scot through and through, James served as president of the Utah Scottish Association, and played drums with the Utah Pipe Band. He found great joy in passing on his Scottish heritage to his family.

James was an active member of the LDS Church. He had many callings, but truly loved his current calling as a teacher in the LDS Branch at the Utah State Hospital. He had a gift for serving others, whether his family and friends or strangers.

He had a love of reading, politics, and history--particularly Scottish and American Civil War history. He had his own style which transcended mere trend or fashion, and paid homage to the gentlemanly customs of an earlier time.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Albert Oliver McCloud, Jr.. He is survived by his wife Susan, children Heather (Michael) McCloud-Huff, Jennifer (Stephen) Sandstrom, Jared (April) McCloud, Rebeccah McCloud, Morag (Seth) Kawasaki, and Mairi McCloud; grandchildren Dylan Huff, Katie McCloud, Afton Coleman, Elder Jesse Sandstrom, Reagan Sandstrom, Haydn Sandstrom, Lexi McCloud, Tillie Kawasaki and Hermione Kawasaki; and two great-grandchildren; sister Laura McCloud, brother Donald (Carol) McCloud, sister-in-law June McCloud, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 8, 2013, in the Old Provo 1st Ward LDS Chapel, 195 South 100 East, Provo, Utah.
