Jean King

–

Provo, Utah

Our Mother, Jean King, was a warm, compassionate, vibrant woman. She was always on the go, taking care of her family and those she loved and helping those in need.

Jean, a faithful servant of our Heavenly Father, was welcomed back into his arms on October 13, 2024 at the age of 91. She was a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and friend. On August 21, 1933, Jean was born in Livonia, Michigan to the late Paul Robert Engemann and Lillias Susan Nicholas.

She was the second oldest of four children with Karl, Robert and William. She was raised in Livonia and Detroit, Michigan. She attended BYU and worked at a local market where she met Edmund Creighton King, a customer. After dating for two years, they were married in the Utah Manti Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Over the course of their marriage, they lived in Chicago, Studio City, Provo, Mesquite and St. George. During her life, she worked as an office manager for a doctor and also worked alongside her husband as an office manager for his business. She worked additionally as a secretary for a recording studio in Studio City. She advocated for child safety and the homeless.

She was sweet, sassy, loving, brave, adventurous, spiritual, giving, resourceful, and a faithful follower of Christ. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and served Him in the Temple, Primary, Relief Society and Young Women, in Ward and Stake callings.

Jean loved being a mother, crafting, playing games, anything electronic, going on adventures, serving others and although she hated shopping, she loved Chicos.

Jean leaves behind her beloved husband, her children Suzanne King Gourdin and her husband Bruce Knight Gourdin, Lisa King Baird and her husband Scott R Baird, Edmund Creighton King, Jr. and his wife Julie Ann Luneke King, and Heidi Jean King Sobisky and her husband Stephen Joseph Sobisky. She is also survived by her brother Karl Engemann and her brother Bill's wife Kathryn Engemann. She leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Lillias Engemann, her brothers Bob Engemann and Bill Engemann, and her sisters in law Gerri Engemann and Betty Engemann.

We want to thank the wonderful Legacy Village of Provo family for all of the love they showed Jean. She thought of everyone there as angels.
