The children of Jeanene Brown and Alan R. Morgan announce the passing of their adored and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and dedicated friend. Jeanene was surrounded by her family as she faithfully completed her earthly mission and was peacefully taken from us on September 9, 2026.
Jeanene was born May 8, 1934, in Reno, Nevada, to John Earl and Retta Ludlow Brown. She spent most of her childhood in Benjamin, Utah, where she attended school through the eighth grade. Her family later moved to Provo, where she attended BY High. While in high school, she was an honor student, a member of the girls' choir, and an active participant in the Thespian Club.
It was at BY High that she met and was courted by her lifelong sweetheart, Alan Roberts Morgan. It was "love at first sight." They were married on April 14, 1951, and were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on October 30, 1952. They lived in Utah until 1954, when dental school took them to Cleveland, Ohio. Over the next nine years, Jeanene, Alan, and their four children lived in Tacoma and Richland, Washington, as well as Marina and Salinas, California. They eventually returned to Provo, where they welcomed two additional children and happily lived out the rest of their lives.
Jeanene was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings, including Ward Relief Society President, BYU Stake Relief Society Presidency member, ward activities committee member, homemaking leader, stake drama leader, and Primary teacher. Driven by her love for theater and music composition, Jeanene wrote and directed many church roadshows and assisted with the Provo 4th of July Panorama programs. She also performed in the production Patriots in Petticoats, sharing the stories of women who risked their lives to support the American Revolution.
Community service and heritage were incredibly important to Jeanene. She was a member of the National Society of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, the Utah Dental Women's Association, and was a past president of the La Sertoma (Service to Mankind) International Organization. One of her greatest joys was her lifelong association with the women in the Les Femmes Club.
Jeanene lived to support her children and grandchildren in all of their sports, dance, music, theater, and church accomplishments, rarely missing a game, recital, or program. She and Alan were also avid golfers; remarkably, she played her last round at the age of 92. Her other interests included reading, sewing, crafts, and needlework. She was a master seamstress from a young age; she poured her heart and immense talent into creating beautiful costumes and clothing for her family. Her exceptional skill was evident as early as the seventh grade when she crafted a tailored, lined wool coat for herself—a remarkable achievement that went on to win a blue-ribbon award at the state fair. Throughout her life, her gift for sewing was a beautiful expression of her love.
An adventurous traveler, Jeanene visited over 50 countries spanning six continents alongside Alan, embracing diverse cultures, unique cuisines, and beautiful scenery. Her final trip took place in 2025, when she traveled with her six children and their spouses to England, Wales, Ireland, and Scotland to explore the lands of their ancestors. Jeanene was also a true-blue BYU fan, a member of the Cougar Club for over 60 years, and a devoted season ticket holder for football and basketball. She especially loved cheering on the men’s and women’s volleyball teams.
Jeanene is survived by her six children: Cathreen Stevens, John David Morgan, Rebecca (John) Corwell, James Alan (Sue) Morgan, Jeffrey Earl (JeraLeigh) Morgan, and Jaylan Brown (Amy) Morgan. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of 23 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alan R. Morgan; her parents, John Earl and Retta Ludlow Brown; her sisters, Lana Brown and Urla Smith; her son-in-law, Kent Stevens; and her grandsons-in-law, Mike Versluis and Bryan Worthington.
Funeral services will be held in Jeanene's honor at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Provo Utah Oak Hills Stake Center (925 North Temple Drive, Provo, Utah). Friends and family may visit at the church on Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
Interment will follow at the Provo City Cemetery. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family online at www.bergmortuary.com.
