Jocyle Elmer

–

Tooele, Utah

It is with love and tender hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Jocyle Elmer.

Jocyle was born on December 3, 1937, in Alpine, Utah. Affectionately known to many as Josie or Joycee, she was a spirited and compassionate woman who radiated warmth and love to everyone around her. She lived her life with thoughtful purpose, always placing her children and their needs first, even during difficult times. Her caring nature extended beyond her family, and those who knew her admired her fierce devotion to her children and the strength with which she defended her beliefs.

Jocyle was a creative and talented woman who found great joy in crafting beautiful things. She enjoyed working with ceramics, creating floral decorations, and crocheting intricate pieces that reflected the care and love she poured into every stitch. One of her proudest accomplishments was winning first place at the Utah State Fair for a ceramic birdhouse she created. Her creativity and artistic talents will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

For many years, Jocyle worked as a Housekeeping Supervisor at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, where she was known for her dedication, strong work ethic, and reliability. She approached her work with the same commitment and care that she gave to her family.

Jocyle was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and her faith played an important role in guiding her life. She lived with charity, kindness, and compassion for others, leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know her.

Jocyle is survived by her children: Tonyia (James) McFarland, Connie Elmer, Christine (Anthony) Woodward, Jay (Lisa) Elmer, Trudy (Curtis) Miller, and Myrinda (Clint) Barnes; her sisters Rhonda (Dave) Webb, Layna DeSpain, and Janet (Gene) Jensen; and her brother John Randall DeSpain. She is also lovingly remembered by many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Velda DeSpain; her brothers Jay Gordan, Joel Kently, and Thomas H. DeSpain; her sister Karen Timothy; and her daughter Sherrie Sleath.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Timpanogos Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1000 East 400 North, Orem, Utah 84097.
