American Fork, Utah
Keith Eugene Kopp, 79, of American Fork, Utah, passed away peacefully at home on September 8, 2026, of natural causes, surrounded by his family and under the loving care of Dignity Hospice.
Keith was born November 3, 1946, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Doward and Mary Kopp. He was raised in Swan Valley, Idaho, a place deeply connected to his family’s history and lived nearby in Palisades until 1957.
Keith’s love of music began early when he learned to play the clarinet in middle school. He soon played the sax and became deeply involved in his high school band. He received the prestigious John Philip Sousa Award for musical achievement and leadership.
Keith attended Weber State University, earning a degree in music education and teaching. Music became much more than a career—it was his lifelong passion and a gift he loved sharing. Throughout his life, he taught choir, band, and orchestra, inspiring countless students to develop their talents and confidence.
On June 12, 1969, Keith married Roberta Lucille Willard in the Los Angeles California Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They began their married life in Ogden, Utah, and they later moved to Parma, Idaho, where Keith taught choir, band, and orchestra.
Keith’s love of music led the family on an adventure when he was invited to join an Austrian folk band. They lived and traveled throughout Austria and Switzerland while Keith performed professionally.
After returning to Idaho, Keith managed music stores, eventually leading the family to Bend, Oregon, in 1980 where they lived for 22 years.
Keith then changed careers and studied to become a piano technician. His work eventually brought the family back to Utah, where he became Piano Shop Manager and head technician at Brigham Young University in Orem.
Keith was a lifelong member of the Piano Technicians Guild (PTG) and was highly respected in the piano-tuning community. He served in the Guild and on its Board of Directors, including a term as president. He received the James H. Burton Award and was inducted into the PTG Hall of Fame. Among his peers, he was regarded as one of the finest in his field.
Keith’s greatest gift, however, was his willingness to share what he knew. He taught and mentored aspiring piano technicians and genuinely enjoyed helping others develop their skills. He continued tuning pianos privately until his retirement.
Keith was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. From 1966 to 1968, he served a mission in London, England, then known as the British Mission. Throughout his life, he served faithfully in many Church callings, including as a choral director, in the elder’s quorum, in several bishoprics, and as an executive secretary in a stake presidency. His faith and service were central to his life and shaped the way he cared for others.
Keith is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Roberta Kopp; children, Rasheil Stanger, Bryan Kopp, ShaNae Wood, Melodie Wyatt, Kreslie Hawk, Aaron Kopp, and Eric Kopp; his brother, Kwin Kopp of Ammon, Idaho; 21 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant son, Darrin Kopp.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who have reached out with messages of love, kindness, and support during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to a local school’s band or music program in Keith’s memory, helping nurture the joy of music and the opportunities it brings to young people.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 12, 2026 at the Hillcrest 5th Ward Meetinghouse, 680 North 350 West, American Fork, Utah. The family will receive friends at the Berg Orem Chapel, 500 North State Street, Orem, Utah, Friday, September 11, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and at the church Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be at the American Fork City Cemetery. Condolences may be extended online at www.bergmortuary.com.
