The world lost a great fisherman, Kenneth Lowin Fryer, on May 10, 2015 in the midst of his loving family after a valiant 28-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. Ken was born June 25, 1938 in Provo, Utah, son of Howard and Winona Fryer. He spent most of his life in the Provo/Orem area. He served as an LDS missionary in the Northern States Mission. He continued to faithfully serve and magnify various church callings throughout his life. He was married to his sweetheart, Joan Hales on May 29, 1962 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Ken graduated from BYU in Business Management and spent the majority of his career working at Signetics, where he ultimately retired.
Ken lived by his own philosophy of the Fryer Family F’s: Family, Faith, Fishing, and Flowers. Being the oldest grandchild in his family, all of his siblings, cousins, and friends looked up to him as their mentor. Ken was blessed with five children, in whom he instilled the values of hard work, honesty, and living the principles of the gospel. One of the greatest joys in his life was his 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. They loved spending time with him outdoors; whether fishing, hunting, or gardening. They spent hours listening to his stories and played endless rounds of his favorite board game, Pollyanna. In their eyes, he was, and will forever remain their hero.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Howard Richard and Lynn Russell; and great-grandson, Hudson Crandall. He is survived by his wife, Joan Hales Fryer; children, Lisa Carter (Kevin), Lynn Fryer (Jana), Russell Fryer (Tara), Kristine Otterson (Eric), Benjamin Fryer (Jenny); grandchildren, great-grandchildren; brother, David Fryer (Kathy) and sister, Laura Fryer.
Thank you for showing through your example of determination and strength that if you continue to remain faithful to gospel principles, keep a positive attitude, a sense of humor, and of course, lots of fishing, you can overcome any obstacle that life may throw your way. You are the true meaning of enduring to the end. Although we will miss you terribly, we will remember what you taught us, to just “hang in there” until we meet again. We love you Quasi.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the Berg Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center Street, Provo, Utah. Friends may call at the mortuary Friday from 6-8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Provo City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent online at www.bergmortuary.com.
