Lanny J. Davis Obituary (1951

Lanny J. Davis an amazing son, brother, father and grandpa died on September 26, 2016 peacefully during his sleep at the young age of 65. He drifted out of pain and suffering into blissfulness and peace. He was born at 10:40 p.m. on May 8, 1951 at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, UT to Wayne Burdell and Nancy Carol Davis. Lanny attended Provo High School. He enlisted into the United States Naval Academy on June 6, 1969 and proudly served his country for 4 years during the Vietnam War. He served on the USS Waddell DDG24 Destroyer and the USS Midway CV41. After the war was over Lanny returned home unharmed and grateful it was finally over. He later obtained a career with Provo City in the Storm Water department as Water Master for 23 years. He would often come home with “treasures” he dug out of the ditches such as old coke bottles or pockets full of change. He married Patricia Ray Hurst on January 13, 1979 and together had one daughter. They later divorced but remained good friends. During his marriage he gained an additional 2 daughters and 1 son. He loved every single one of his children as if they were his very own. In fact, if you asked him how many children he had, he would always respond with 3 daughters and 1 son. Lanny enjoyed the simple things in life such as hunting, fishing, Harley Davidson motorcycles, watching T.V., tinkering with cars or horsing around with his children and grandchildren. Family was his number one priority in life. Lanny is survived by his mother Nancy Carol Davis, 4 brothers; Chad (Colette), Dell, Roy and Lynn. His children, Jerry Zobell, Terry Black Jr, Keri Thomas and Marti (Greg) Beecroft, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his Father Wayne Burdell Davis, paternal grandparents Dell and Julia Rachel Davis, maternal grandparents George Wilford and Delores Johnson and Aunt Dora Davis. The family would like to extend a very warm and loving thank you to all the staff members at Provo Assisted Living. You made our Dad feel so welcomed and loved. Also, to the many friends he made in the short time he was there, your kindness and generosity has not gone unnoticed. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 30, 2016 at the Berg Drawing Room Chapel. 185 East Center Street, Provo, Utah. Friends may call from 1:00-1:50 p.m. prior to services.
