LaVon Clement Johnson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on October 18, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and a life well-lived. He was born on November 24, 1932, in Torrey, Wayne, Utah, to his parents, Clement Hills Johnson and Clara McDougall. On March 14, 1957, he married his eternal companion, Marlene Cutler, in the sacred Salt Lake Temple. LaVon's life was marked by remarkable achievements and a passion for helping others. He pursued his academic dreams with unwavering determination, culminating in the attainment of a PhD in Health Education and Exercise Physiology from the University of Utah. With his impressive qualifications, LaVon embarked on a fulfilling career as an international and collegiate gymnastic coach. His expertise and guidance enriched the lives of countless athletes, leaving an indelible mark on the world of gymnastics. Outside of his professional accomplishments, LaVon possessed an adventurous spirit that drew him to explore the world. He served missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Argentina and Monterrey, Mexico, sharing his faith and kindness with those he met. LaVon's zest for life extended to his hobbies, which included golfing, avid reading, and running marathons. His energetic pursuits inspired many and showcased his dedication to staying active and engaged. LaVon's family was the center of his world, and he shared a deep bond with his siblings: Howard, Dawn, Derrell, Lovisa, Martha, and Jay. He is survived by his loving wife, Marlene, and their children: Kristine (Len Hoffman), Laurene (Mark Enright), Sue (John Russell), Calvin (Elizabeth McCreary), Holly (Rodney Lyman), and Diana (Leon Patchin IV). LaVon's legacy extends to his 18 cherished grandchildren and 23 adored great-grandchildren, each of whom he loved and treasured dearly. Private Family Services will be held.
