Leonard Kay Baxter would like to let you know that his work here is done. He’s received a call, sort of an offer you can’t refuse, to go hunting with his dad in the abundant fields of heaven. Big L was a champion shooter and a member of the Provo Gun Club for many years. He passed away on January 5, 2024, at Parkway Rehab.
Leonard was born December 8, 1946. James Lloyd Baxter and Berniece Knudsen fathered him along with three sisters, Reva, Laree and Fern in Provo, Utah on the family farm called Lakefront Jersey. He graduated from Provo High School in 1964. In August of 1973, Leonard married Kayleene Brereton. Later they divorced but not before welcoming a beautiful baby girl into the world; Dawn Marie Price was born February 1976. For the majority of his life, Leonard worked as an auto-body painter with D&H Automotive. As a gift for her 16th birthday, he flawlessly painted a mustang in cherry red with luster for his daughter. He had a talent for building and flying RC planes. The one he cherished was a blue Corsair. He knew the value of health after overcoming a heart attack in 1998 and a battle with throat cancer in 2015.
He was a man of few words but he was proud of his three grandsons, Preston, Cameron and Gavin, going to North Pole, Alaska to support them in graduation and celebrate with a fishing pole. He was a patriotic man, likely to listen to the national anthem on repeat.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 15, 2024, at the Berg Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center Street, Provo, Utah. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:50 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in Eastlawn Memorial Hills. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.bergmortuary.com.
