Obituary for
LeRoy Barkdull
1943 – 2026

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to a compassionate soul, LeRoy Barkdull, who departed this life on August 15, 2026 surrounded by the love and presence of his family.

Born on December 27, 1943, in Ogden, UT, LeRoy, a loving and dedicated individual, spent his entire life serving others. He was a Jack of all Trades, a dedicated laborer who spent 35 rewarding years with BYU Print Services. Spreading joy among his family, his life was a testament to his unwavering faith and commitment to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, exemplifying the verse, "When ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God." (Mosiah 2:17)

LeRoy was a pillar of strength and support, not only for his family but also for his community. He built his home in Provo, Utah, with his father-in-law (Wally Eklund) in 1965, and moved in with his growing family in 1966. It is a testament to his resourcefulness and hard work. LeRoy was reputed for his handyman skills, often being the go-to person for fixing water heaters in his neighborhood. He was a devoted husband to Karen Louise Eklund, whom he married on January 20th, 1964, and was later sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his world. He loved spending time with them, he always made time to take them to parks, skating rinks, and trampoline venues. He also cherished the long bike rides with his son Ken, especially their trips to Bridal Veil Falls. Riding on a bike path was much safer as we all know, LeRoy was often times a scary driver in a vehicle. In his early years when his children were younger he enjoyed taking his boys (Ken & Mark) hunting and teaching them the way of outdoor living. He and his wife Karen were active instructors for the Boy Scouts and enjoyed the adventures that being involved with his sons took them. He was very proud to have achieved Eagle Scout honors. LeRoy was a simple but loving man and that played a big part in how he raised and nurtured his youngest and only daughter. He was the best "Daddy" a girl could ask for. He taught her exactly what the man in her life would have to measure up to.

LeRoy is survived by his Wife Karen Louise Eklund Barkdull, Brothers Rick Barkdull (Lisa) and Arlo Barkdull (Judy), son Mark Barkdull (Deann) and daughter Wendy Sturgeon (Scott), 8 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents LeRoy and June Barkdull, son Kenneth Barkdull and his two sisters Delores Poppleton and Deena Segovia. His life was full of service, love, and dedication to his family and faith. LeRoy was a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew him. His legacy will continue to inspire and influence many generations to come.

The family will receive family and friends at Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center St., Provo, UT on Sunday, August 23 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
