Lila Christine Carter Tanner Obituary (1942

Lila Christine Carter Tanner, age 77, of Springville, Utah, passed away peacefully in Payson, Utah surrounded by her family on the evening of April 6, 2020. Lila was born on July 28, 1942 in Provo, Utah to William Frances and Edith Barney Carter. Lila had 5 brothers and 1 sister. She met the love of her life, Michael Jean "Sundance" Tanner at the age of 14. They married on New Year’s Eve 1959. They were blessed with 8 children; 5 boys and 3 girls. Lila was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was the neighborhood mom and everyone loved hanging out at her home. She welcomed everyone with open arms. She had a Rated R comedic personality and being around her was always a guarantee of fun and laughter. She loved camping and would spend many summers up Payson Canyon with her family enjoying the outdoors. She loved to travel, especially to California and Las Vegas to enjoy all the sites these places have to offer, her favorite being Universal Studios. Lila was a very talented seamstress and could sew anything from her children’s clothing to wedding dresses, Barbie clothes to doll clothes, and so much more—all without a pattern. She worked at Barbizon as a seamstress for many years. She was a homemaker, housekeeper, security guard and lastly working as a CNA in the care centers with the elderly, which she loved. She was an avid animal lover and opened her home to many over the years. At the time of her passing, she had 2 dogs: Smokey and Tanzo, her cat Angus and many other cats. She loved them all dearly and they were always by her side. Lila was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Michael; son, Ronnie; brothers: Doyle, Jack, Larry, Danny and Joe; sister, Carol and her beloved pets: Oakley, Lady, Lassie, Porky, Morris and many more. She is survived by her children: Mike (Tara) Tanner of Millcreek, UT; Johnny (Linda) of Santaquin, UT; Lori Laird of Springville, UT; Sherry Hill of Provo, UT; Danny Tanner of Springville, UT; Bill Tanner of Springville, UT and Heather (Wayne) Tanner of Springville, UT; 23 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; honorary son, Jason Waters and family. A very special thank you to her son Bill for being her 24/7 caretaker and trusty sidekick for the last several years. Due to the current pandemic situation, Lila will be interred at the Provo City Cemetery in a private graveside ceremony surrounded by immediate family members who live in the local area.
