Marva Betteridge Halladay

–

Provo, Utah

On July 24, 2017 Marva Halladay passed peacefully from this earth in the arms of her loving husband, William (Bill) Madsen Halladay. It is appropriate that Marva should pass on Pioneer Day. She had the heart, fortitude and faith of the early pioneers. She passed through hardship always looking forward, doing what needed to be done and laughing and smiling at every opportunity.

Marva grew up in Valley Pass, Nevada, which was literally a water stop on the railroad line. Her only neighbors were coyotes. As the eldest of six, Marva mothered her younger siblings, making sure they were entertained and cared for and helping her parents at every turn. The family did everything together taking the train to school, to church and to dances where they danced with each other when there were not enough partners.

Later Marva became mother to her own two children Annie and Don. Annie provided her with three grandchildren who she loved deeply and when she married Bill he provided her with another family of children and grandchildren who adopted her and loved her as their own.

Bill and Marva carried on the tradition of doing everything together. Being together was their favorite activity from church callings to television shows to missionary work to marvelous adventures. Marva and Bill served a mission in the cold reaches of British Columbia where they made lasting friends and memories.

Marva brought joy and color to all who knew her. She loved red; red cars, red flowers, red pillows, red red red. She loved the Utah Jazz and never missed a game. She loved jigsaw puzzles and gardening and bird watching and laughing and playing and all things fun.

She will be missed, but we are grateful she has reunited with her beloved daughter, sister and parents. We love you, Marva Halladay.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the Berg Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center Street, Provo, Utah. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at www.bergmortuary.com.
