Marva Edwards Latimer, 83, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026. Marva was born on June 15, 1942 in Charleston, Utah, to Elmer Edwards and Orpha Kay Edwards. She had three sisters and one brother.
Marva attended schools in Wallsburg, Charleston and Heber; and graduated from Seminary and Orem High School in 1960. She attended and graduated from Snow College, then went on to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the New England Mission.
After her mission, she continued her education at Brigham Young University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968.
After college, Marva accepted a job with the Utah State Extension Service and the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs. She was an Advisor and a Home Economist; teaching and assisting the Native Americans in San Juan County, Utah. She enjoyed living in Monticello and Blanding Utah. She loved the people she was serving and said it was almost like being on a second mission.
Marva decided to move closer to family and started working for Mountain America Credit Union in 1974. She held many management positions throughout her career, including Branch Manager in Provo. Many people that worked with her said that she was a great mentor and teacher to them. She also served as President in the Credit Women International organization. She worked for the Credit Union for 32 years.
Marva married Donald Latimer on November 6, 1998, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 18 years before his passing. They liked to travel and attend BYU sporting events, especially the football games.
She was a lifelong active member of The Church and faithfully served in many callings. She said her favorite calling was as a temple worker in the Salt Lake and Provo Temples.
She had many long-time friends and enjoyed getting together with them to have dinner and play games. She was a very competitive game player, especially when she was playing with family. She liked to quilt, go to concerts, find new adventures, camp and be outdoors. She always said “you need to take time to smell the roses”. Her favorite things were hot chocolate, raisin cookies, diet coke and black licorice.
Marva loved her family. She was always finding surprises in her purse after a family get together. She wouldn’t admit it, but she really did like to be teased by her nieces and nephews. She was always a good sport. She was loved and will be missed.
The family would like to thank all of Marva’s caregivers for their kindness and compassion.
Marva was preceded in death by her husband Don; her parents Elmer and Orpha Edwards; her sisters Mary Jean Edwards, Eva Herrick, and Cleo Carter; her brother Allen Edwards; brother-in-law’s Gordon Herrick and Delos Carter; sister-in-law Marie Edwards; nephews Robert Edwards and Bryce Carter; and grandniece Christi Anna Lowe. She is survived by 7 nephews, 13 nieces and many great nephews and nieces.
