The Final Route: A Celebration of Matthew Thomas Allison

April 14, 1989 - February 24, 2026

Sapper. Advocate. Gamer. Wild Spirit.

If life is a battlefield, Matthew spent his early years as a Combat Engineer. He was an explosives expert trained to break things down so others could move forward. Yet, if you asked him about his greatest mission in his final years, it was not about demolition. It was about clearing the path for the people he loved. He lived a life of heavy armor and deep grace, transitioning from a boy to a man in the rigors of military service. This transformation left him with a lifelong humbleness and a fierce protective streak for the underdog.

Matthew passed away recently after finally finding the slower path he so often dreamed of. After the devastating loss of his first wife, Sara, and a career cut short by the very illness he fought until the end, he refused to stay static. Through a hard-won legal battle, he transformed a tragedy into a windfall of freedom. He did not hoard his peace; he distributed it. Matthew believed that no one should be left destitute while the more fortunate drive on by.

When he was not chasing the horizon in one of his cherished cars, he was a titan of the digital world. As a master builder of gaming computers, he cultivated an international circle of friends who knew him as a fierce competitor always ready to swoop in to help carry others to victory. At his feet, or more likely on his keyboard, was Rango. His purebred Russian Maine Coon lived the life of a spoiled prince under Matthew’s watchful eye.

Matthew found beauty in the tattered old plantations of the South and the unpaved woods of Maine. He was a man of deep contradictions: a warrior who loved the calm of a bubbling stream, a rugged engineer who swooned for timeless culture, and a fierce advocate for equality who believed in justice for every soul he encountered.

Matthew is survived by those who stood in the breach with him. This includes his wife, Catrina, who held his hand through the fires of leukemia and brought a new family into his heart. He is also survived by his mother, Tara, whose legal mind and mother’s heart guided him through his darkest tactical retreats. He is remembered by his siblings, Nicole, Jacob, a number of half and step siblings, along with a large, loving family across the United States and the many soldiers and gamers who called him brother. He goes now to join Sara, whose foundation provided for his final acts of generosity.

After a life of fighting exhaustive battles, Matthew’s final op is complete. He has moved on to those dreamy hills of Virginia and the eastern seaboards he loved where the highway stops being paved and the scenery fills the weary heart with calm. He leaves this world ensuring his loved ones never have to face the long back roads alone.

In lieu of flowers, Matthew would likely ask that you help a stranger in traffic, play some melodic rock at a high volume with your windows rolled down, or advocate for someone who cannot fight for themselves.
