Nadine Farr Rasmussen

–

Provo, Utah

Nadine Farr Rasmussen, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the home of her daughter Meridee Williams in Provo, Utah, on August 19, 2014, where she has resided for the past month. For the three and a half years prior to this she had been living under the loving care of her son and daughter-in-law Garth and Kathy Rasmussen in Henderson, Nevada.

Nadine was born on November 20, 1923 in Tucson, Arizona to Heber Erastus Farr and Hilda Bluth Farr. She was second-youngest of the twenty-three children of Heber Farr. She had ten brothers and sisters, and, in addition, twelve half-brothers and sisters from Heber’s first wife Elizabeth. Of her numerous siblings, she is survived by only two sisters: Yvonne Farr Morgan and Azona Farr Lloyd. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Halvan, Maybelle, Deral, Winnifred, Josephine, Keith, Ivan, and Lawrence.

From Tucson her family moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah and then later to Provo where Nadine lived most of her life. It was at Provo High School as a cheerleader that she met her husband-to-be, Lloyd Rasmussen. As the family story goes, Lloyd, a basketball star for the rival B.Y. High Wildcats, was dribbling near the sideline where Nadine, the P.H.S cheerleader stepped inbounds and accidentally tripped him. As they both tell the story, that’s where Lloyd first “fell for her,” and they were in love ever since. They married in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple on September 23, 1943, and after Lloyd’s military service, they made their home in Provo, living among many of the same neighborhood friends for over 60 years. Lloyd and Nadine are the parents of four children: Susan Green, Santa Fe, New Mexico; Meridee Williams and husband Lind, Provo, Utah; Garth L. Rasmussen and wife Kathy, San Jose, California; and Shaun F. Rasmussen and wife Susan, Eldorado Hills, California. They have 18 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

She was a skilled cook, seamstress, and homemaker. Always caring and capable, she could make curtains for her home or rescue a wedding dress mishap at the last minute. She loved family get-togethers, and reunions. She was an organizer and ensured that gatherings with Farr and Rasmussen cousins and aunts and uncles were happy and memorable. Her home was always the fun place to be at Christmas, Thanksgiving, and the Fourth of July, not only for her children and grandchildren, but usually with many other invitees included as part of the family. Her holiday traditions will be passed on for generations, although her delicious potato salad recipe will never be replicated and will go with her into the next world. What a great “Farr Family Reunion” that will be. Her life demonstrated that memories and traditions are built from love and togetherness. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She lived a beautiful life.

Always active and involved in the LDS church, Nadine faithfully fulfilled numerous ward and stake leadership callings. She and her husband Lloyd served in the London England South Mission and have served as Temple Workers in the Provo LDS Temple. Nadine led an exemplary life, full of kindness, generosity, and service to her family, her neighbors, and her church. She had a knack for making everyone her friend and making friends feel like family.

Her family would like to thank the tender kindness and concern provided by the Compassion Care Hospice in Henderson, Nevada and the Maple Creek Hospice in Utah Valley.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 22 at the Bonneville 4th Ward Chapel, 1289 East 300 South, Provo, Utah. Friends may call at the church from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Provo City Cemetery. Condolences to the family may be sent to www.bergmortuary.com.
