Nathella Garrett Obituary (1919

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend passed away in her home at 4:20 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2011 surrounded by her family. Nathella was born December 29, 1919 in Carterville, Provo, Utah to Awilda Richins and Duwane Ivie. She was the first of four daughters. Nathella married Albert (Bert) William Garrett on April 27, 1938 in Provo, Utah. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. On April 27, 2011 they celebrated 73 years of marriage, living in Provo most of their years. Nathella was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving many years in Primary, Sunday School, Relief Society, Cub Scouts, and in the library. Nathella joined the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Camp Blue Spruce and was also a member of the Union Pacific Old Timers Club and was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary Club number 34, holding leadership positions from President to Trustee. Nathella was noted for her dinner rolls, homemade bread, giving parties and dancing. She had many hobbies, did many crafts, enjoyed needlework, quilting, crocheting edges on handkerchiefs, table cloths, pillow cases, making doilies for her family and friends and crocheted elegant dresses and accessories for 35 Barbie dolls. She loved genealogy, histories, and journals. After her husband retired they traveled with their trailer loving the great outdoors in the mountains among the trees. Most of all Nathella loved her family and friends. She was loved by all and will be missed. She is survived by her husband Albert (Bert) W. Garrett, of Provo; daughters Beverly (Cecil) Jones of Mesa, Arizona; Ileen G. Murray, of St. George; daughter-in-law LeeAnn Garrett, of Provo; sisters Irene (Melvin) Looder, of Saratoga Springs; Lois Lovell, of Taylorsville; 10 grandchildren 26 ½ great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Nathella was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Lawrence William Garrett; grandson, Brian Patrick Murray; infant twins great-granddaughters Florenia and Cynthia Murray; sister Merelda I. Shinkle and 2 brothers-in-law Harvey B. Shinkle and David R. Lovell. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the Pioneer 4th Ward Chapel, 376 North 700 West, Provo. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 and at the church Wednesday from 9:30-10:40 a.m. prior to services.
