Norma Perry Hopkins

–

Provo, Utah

Norma Perry Hopkins was born July 5, 1924, in Provo, Utah, to Darwin H. and America De St. Jeor Perry. She was the second of four children.

After graduating from Provo High School, Norma worked at the telephone company during World War II and continued for several years.

On April 19, 1946, Norma married her high school sweetheart, Kay Hopkins, when he returned from three years service in the South Pacific. Their marriage was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on January 17th, 1964.

Norma was a woman of tireless dedication and hard work. In 1962, she and Kay purchased the Perry Seed & Nursery Seed Store, a family business founded by her grandfather in 1894. Together with the help of her parents, children, aunts and friends, they worked tirelessly each spring, raising and selling beautiful plants to devoted customers. Norma loved serving her community, and her customers returned year after year, drawn by her warmth and care. Although the work was demanding and the hours long, she took great joy in it. In the off-season, she and Kay enjoyed creating memories with their children in the mountains. They operated the business for 25 years before retiring.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Norma served faithfully in numerous callings throughout her life.

After retirement, Norma fell in love with oil painting, an endeavor that brought her immense joy for over 30 years. She created more than 80 cherished paintings, now treasured by her children and grandchildren. Her talents extended to sewing, gardening, quilting, and creating a beautiful life for her family. She was a proud member of The Daughter of Utah Pioneers and participated in a quilting club for 45 years, often hosting quilting bees in her living room where friends would gather to quilt, talk, and laugh. In her later years, she also enjoyed playing pinochle with her card club.

Norma’s life was defined by her love for others. She had an incredible ability to make everyone feel valued and cherished. Those who knew her loved her deeply because of the love she freely gave.

In the last year of her life, Norma lived at Ashford Assisted Living, where she was surrounded by a caring and supportive community. She often expressed her gratitude for the wonderful staff and the friendships she formed there. The love and kindness she received brought her great comfort and joy during the last year of her life. Her family is deeply appreciative of the exceptional care she was given. She passed away at the age of 100 on November 24, 2024.

She is survived by her children: Kaylen (Mike) Lewis of Tooele, UT; Connie (David) Tolman of Provo, UT; Tonya (David) Campbell of Johnstown, OH; Roger (Lisa) Hopkins of Herriman, UT; her brother, Bob (Mary) Perry of Springville, UT; 19 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, and 24 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kay; her son, Ricky; her two brothers, Mel and Dean Perry; and two grandsons, Kevin and Brock Hopkins.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 2, 2024 at the Grandview 16th Ward Chapel, 1260 West 1150 North, Provo, Utah. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Provo City Cemetery. Condolences may be extended at www.bergmortuary.com.
