Orven Adolph "Skeet" Hudgens Obituary (1932

Orven Adolph “Skeet” Hudgens, returned home to his Father in Heaven on November 30, 2022, at the age of 90, at the VA hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Skeet was born in Montrose, Colorado, to Oren and Lois Hudgens on June 10, 1932, at their home. He was the second of three boys. Skeet had many jobs throughout his life such as: bowling pin setter, working on farms and ranches, paper route, mail carrier, insurance broker, and many others. In 1959, he met his sweetheart, Sharon Alice Jones. He proposed to her after only 5 weeks of dating. On March 18, 1960, they were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple, in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had 8 children and lived a wonderful and loving life. His greatest blessings in his life were his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Skeet registered for the draft after he graduated high school in June of 1950. He received his draft notice in 1952 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served 4 years and 4 years in the Air Force Reserve. He served in Air Rescue and Survival. He is also a veteran of the Korean War. He was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 30, 1950. He was an active member of the church and served in many callings and blessed many lives along the way. He was a leader in the Boy Scouts of America for over 50 years. He taught many young men how to tie knots, knife safety, camping skills, survival skills, topography, kayak building, A-Frame Waddle, and many more basic life skills. For all his many years of service and dedication to the scouting program, he received the Silver Beaver Award for his achievements. He loved wood working and genealogy and spent many hours on both hobbies. Skeet was preceded in death by his father, Oren Adolph Hudgens; mother, Lois Muriel Joyner; brothers, Oren Mitchell Hudgens and Orlen Gwin “Butch” Hudgens. Skeet is survived by his sweetheart, Sharon Alice Jones; his 8 children: Flint (Denise) Hudgens, Lesle (Marvin) Dodge, Clete (Sondra) Hudgens, Amy (FordLocey) Clark, Jared (Tracy) Hudgens, Nicol (Alex) Jarvis, Tamra (Shad) West, and Chad (Haylee) Hudgens; and his 41 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will include his 4 sons and his grandsons. Special thank you to all the doctors and nurses who have cared for Skeet over the years, and his family and friends who have blessed his life. Skeet was a remarkable husband, father, friend, teacher, leader, coach, and the list goes on. He will be sadly missed, but he will forever live on in the lives of all who have met him. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., December 5, 2022, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Edgemont 10th Ward, 345 East 4525 North, Provo, Utah.
