Patricia Miller

–

Highland, Utah

On January 18, 2026, Patricia Fay Haws Miller passed peacefully in her home with her family at her bedside. She will be missed greatly by those still here and is now enjoying a sweet reunion with her husband and parents.

Patricia Fay Haws was born on December 5, 1937, in Los Angeles, California, the only child and beloved daughter of William Wallace Haws and Zella Fay Carlisle Haws. Pat was raised in a loving home by kind, honest and hard-working parents. She was musical, playing the violin and the piano. She was very close to her cousins, spending a great deal of time with them in her youth.

She graduated from Montebello High School (in Los Angeles) in 1955. As a teenager, she worked part time in a German bakery where she honed her skills to become the world’s best piemaker, making many a pie lover happy throughout her life!

Pat had a dear high school friend, Laura Jackson, who was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Laura extended an invitation to Pat to attend LDS seminary while in her senior year. It didn’t take long for Pat to embrace the gospel, and she was baptized not long after. Her faith was unwavering and steadfast for the rest of her life.

Pat’s friend Laura had decided to attend Brigham Young University and suggested Pat do the same. Pat agreed and enrolled at BYU and later graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. She made several life-long friends while attending BYU. During her senior year, she met Wade Elliott Miller II, also from Los Angeles. They quickly fell in love and were married a few months later on August 19th, 1960, in the Los Angeles, California LDS Temple. They built a loving life together and were married for almost 63 years until Wade’s death in July 2023.

Pat was a selfless and incredibly kind-hearted woman who lived her life with a quiet, yet amazing, strength. She was a loving, attentive and patient mother to three mostly trouble free boys, Wade, Keith and Blake. She pushed them to do their best in school and their extra-curricular activities, to be kind and respectful to others and to love and serve the Lord. She took great joy in being with her family and created a loving and orderly home. She adored her grandchildren (and later great grandchildren) and enjoyed nothing more than going on trips with them or traveling to see them.

In the 1970s, Pat and Wade moved their young family from Southern California to Provo, Utah, where Pat built a career as an elementary school teacher - teaching 1st Grade for many years at Timpanogos Elementary School and later Grandview Elementary School. Pat loved her students and was a fun and energetic teacher. She took great care with her lesson plans and had a tremendous impact on the kids in her class. She even had an animal or two (including a snake) in her classroom every year for the kids to observe and help care for.

Pat had a love for dogs which started in her youth with her beloved pet Butch. When their kids were young, Pat and Wade purchased a German Shepherd, Heidi, that became Pat's close companion (and protector) and a much-loved member of the family for nearly a decade. The purchase came with several training sessions, and Pat quickly found she had a knack for training dogs. So much so that the trainer asked if she would like to apprentice for a while. During this time, she helped train numerous dogs which took her into the homes of a variety of dog owners in Southern California, including some well-known musicians and professional athletes. Heidi was the first in a long line of large family dogs that included Samson, Cheyenne, Viking, Brittany, Lance, Sheba and Gretchen.

Those who knew her well knew how much Pat loved chocolate. She kept different types of chocolate hidden all over the house and it became a fun challenge for her sons to find and eat that chocolate without her knowing. While she said goodbye to many hobbies and activities in her later years, she never lost her taste for chocolate. In fact, it was the last thing she ate before leaving this world.

Pat enjoyed her life, taking time out for fun and traveling to many different parts of the country and the world with loved ones. She was tremendously impactful in giving service to family, friends and strangers and touched many lives throughout her time on this earth. Pat had a great affinity for genealogy, and she and her husband Wade served as full-time missionaries in the Family History center in Provo in the mid-2000s.

Pat is loved and survived by her three sons Wade Miller (Angela), Keith Miller (Robyn) and Blake Miller; her seven grandchildren Elliott Miller (Jessica), Sage Miller Reese (Nicholas), Bailey Miller Smith (Wyatt), Joshua Miller, Elise Miller, Charlotte Miller and Zella Miller; and her five great-grandchildren Eleanor, Charlotte, Katherine, Theodore and Harrison.

We love you mom!
