Phil J Carter Obituary (1925

On Tuesday, September 13, 2022, Phil J. Carter, our loving multi-generational grandfather, peacefully passed away at the age of 97. He is now reunited with the love of his life Sylvia, his coffee buddy Tom, his cherished daughter Sheila, and his beloved parents. Phil was born on August 8, 1925, in Provo, Utah, to Bert and Myrtle (Poynter) Carter. During WWII, Phil landed in Normandy and fought his way through to the Battle of the Bulge, where he was captured as a Prisoner of War in Luxembourg. During his time as a POW, he observed the bombing of Dresden. He considered his service in the Army to be his greatest achievement, and we greatly cherish the stories he shared. Phil retired as a master-steel worker after 30 years. He concurrently worked as a carpenter and continued to do so into his 90s. He built and remodeled the homes that our family grew up in and are enjoyed through today. As a masterful jack-of-all-trades, it seemed Grandpa Phil could fix everything and build anything that could be dreamed of. He was incredibly meticulous and dedicated to doing everything the right way. His ambition knew no bounds, and he was sharp as a tack through the end. With his lifetime of experience and knowledge, Grandpa taught us things that even the highest level of education could not. Phil is survived by his four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at the Berg Drawing Room Chapel at 185 East Center Street, Provo, Utah, 84606. The viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. and last until 11:00 a.m., when we’ll mingle and share fond memories. Interment will follow soon after at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery. We’ll forever miss our irreplaceable mountain of a man, Grandpa Phil.
