Regina Marion Nielsen King

–

Provo, Utah

Regina “Marion” King, 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep August 26, 2022. Marion is the daughter of Carlos Alberto Nielsen Edmonds and Regina Magdalena Galli Bondallaz.

Marion was born in 1935 in one of the Southernmost parts of the world, Puerto Montt, Chile. She and her beautiful four young sisters were the pride of the town. At the age of twenty, she lost her father and had to reach down deep for strength to help her mother take care of her family. In 1961, she met her future husband, a man who would enlist her on his own adventure. She chose to follow him to France where they joined a commune founded on Gandhi’s principle of non-violence and Lanza del Vasto’s view on Catholicism.

After three years in the ashram, she waited for Frank to complete his pilgrimage to Rome by getting a job in an orphanage. She gave him one year to return or she’d return to Chile. He returned one year later, to the day. Later, they would get married and move into a cabin that Frank helped restore. They had no electricity or running water. Eventually, they settled in Antibes, France where they would join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

With their two children, they later moved near Paris and would eventually serve missions in Germany and Austria and move to Provo, UT to live closer to their children and grandchildren.

Marion was fiercely devoted to her husband, loyal to her family, and a warm listener to her many friends. She was responsible, dependable, direct: the truth-teller to her husband’s truth-seeker. Young at heart, she was beloved by young people everywhere she went.

She is survived by her husband, her two children – Marie-Josée (Doug) and Christopher (Karina) – and their grandchildren Zoey, Natalie, Chloe, Lindsey, Frances, and Alexis. She was also a beloved grandma to Adrienne, Erica, Brianna and Blake.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at the Provo 3rd Ward Chapel, 1066 West 200 North, Provo, Utah. Friends may visit with the family from 8:30-9:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at www.bergmortuary.com.
