Ruth Chappell

Ruth Ellen Killpack Chappell, 87, passed away on September 5, 2026, In Springville, Utah. She was born February 10, 1939 in Provo, Utah, to Willard Frank Killpack and Zelma Ellen Van Leuven Killpack.

Ruth graduated from Provo High school in 1957. She married her sweetheart, Calvin Jay Chappell, in the Salt Lake Temple on August 21, l959. They had four children, Cathi, David, Lori and Julie. Ruth loved to decorate cakes and beautiful wedding cakes, oil paint, camp with family and read. She made Swedish weave blankets and other hand-made treasures for each of her 16 grandchildren.

Ruth was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. She loved her Savior and the Gospel. Her most important and challenging calling in life was caring for her special needs daughter Julie, for 48 years. Family was always foremost in Ruth’s life. She was always a caregiver to family, friends and neighbors. She never missed sending birthday and holiday greetings to all, or taking food and checking on those in need. Ruth loved family parties and held many “cousins camps” for her sweet grandchildren. She will be greatly missed as she was such an example of enduring service and selfless love.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cal Chappell, her daughter, Julie Chappell, and her son David Chappell, her parents Zelma and Frank Killpack and her two sisters Frankie Oldroyd and Marjorie Bushnell. She is survived by 2 children: Cathi Berry (Boyd) of Springville, Utah; and Lori Connors (Scott) of Pleasant Grove, Utah; 16 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren; one brother: Lynn Killpack (Pam); and one sister, Gwen Webb (Bill)

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 17, 2026 at the Berg Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center Street Provo, Utah. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will follow in the Provo City Cemetery. A live stream of the services will be available on the Berg Mortuary Website.
