Stacie Clayton Obituary (1968

Never to be outdone, Stacie Clayton succumbed to a hidden illness amidst parades, fanfare, and fireworks on this recent Independence Day, passing comfortably and painlessly following heartfelt goodbyes and whispers of encouragement from loved ones. Stacie was known to make others as happy as she possibly could—with the exception of her mother, who she actively disobeyed from Jr. High on, hiding miniskirts under her clothes, sneaking out the bedroom window, and smoking on the curb. She became a Molyneux two weeks after her birth in 1968 when her parents received a call from an adoption agency to come to Salt Lake. “Do you want her?” someone asked, as they cradled the baby. What do you think!? Of course we do! And with that, Stacie became the first (though notably not the oldest) of five children. From then on, Stacie’s life was full and wild; she developed a love of writing, then later painting; she loved musicals and grumpy little dogs. She married her high school sweetheart in 1988—though it didn’t last—and became a mother in ‘89. Her oldest daughter, Holly, and her two younger children, Nikole and James, remember their mother as a kind, giving, and forgetful woman. She spent many weekends painting ceramics with her children and often sat outside with a cigarette, blowing smoke through a bubble wand while her kids chased each bubble down. Every holiday was magical because of Stacie—painstakingly homemade Halloween costumes, painting and hiding Easter eggs, a leprechaun visiting every St. Patrick’s Day—she managed to sprinkle a little bit of magic wherever she went. Her career can be most easily described as a certified people pleaser; she was a butcher, a farmer, and a waitress, working her way from job-to-job with a smile, joke, and an urgent frantic energy that was as productive as it was amusing. Stacie was warm and loving, and she attracted friends wherever she went. She had a penchant for owls, nature, cooking big breakfasts, and soaking in a hot tub. Those close to Stacie, and even those that weren’t, describe her as one of the most giving people to grace their lives. She was known to put herself last and donate her time, energy, spirit, and money to those around her, often at the expense of her own comfort or happiness. In many ways, her generosity lives on. Through her passionate advocacy for organ donation and her own selfless donation, Stacie will leave a lasting impact on many lives, continuing to touch hearts even beyond her tragic passing. Above all else, Stacie was an extraordinary grandmother. She kept peppermints in her purse for her granddaughter, who asked for the treat by saying “more, more.” And so, she became Grandma More More, and for 8 years, she was known to her grandchildren as the best babysitter, playmate, and grandparent around. She dedicated much of her free time to creating or finding treasures for them. She was eager to drop everything to spend time with those five kids, and was known to watch over them at every family function and event. Stacie is survived by her parents Eugene and Karen Molyneux, as well as her four siblings: Trent Molyneux, Alisha (James Bush) Molyneux, Shawn (Carrie) Molyneux, and Tiffany (Joseph) Dansie. She’s also survived by her three children, Holly (Spencer) Davies, Nikole (Taylor) Rios, and James Clayton as well as her 5 grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 11, 2024, at the Berg Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center Street, Provo, Utah. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 12, 2024, at the Provo City Cemetery, 610 South State Street, Provo, Utah.
