Stevens Call Nelson Obituary (1939

Stevens Call Nelson passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023, in his home in Provo, Utah. He was born November 29, 1939, to Joseph Call Nelson and Dorothy Decker in Provo, Utah. Steve grew up in Provo where he graduated from BY High School in 1958. He served an honorable mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1960-1962 in California. He began his service in the U.S. Army right after high school and was in the Army Reserves for 6 years. Steve continued his education at BYU where he earned a Master of Science in 1966, which he used to become a college professor of Sociology at Butte College where he taught for his career. It was in one of his Sociology classes at BYU where he met his future bride, Constance Clegg. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on December 18, 1964, where they began their lifelong service together. They adopted twin sons in 1967 and a daughter in 1970. They lived in Hemet, CA and then moved to Chico, CA where they lived for over 30 years. In 2003, they built a home in Provo where they enjoyed their ward family and friendships. He was active in the Church and served in many callings, including the bishopric, with the youth of the church, stake missionary and many, many more! He always gave 100% in every calling. Steve was a world traveler, visiting Africa, India, Malaysia, just to name a few. He loved to visit with the people. He didn't like to be a tourist. He loved to get to know the culture and people, not landmarks. Steve and Connie served a proselyting mission in Tallahassee, Florida. Steve baked over 300 loaves of bread that he shared with the people he served. Steve is survived by his sons, Stevens Brett Nelson of Provo, Utah and Bradley Call Nelson of Chico, California; daughter, Candacee McKnight (Jason) of Provo, Utah; brother, Joseph Briant Nelson (Carol); grandchildren: Brayden Andrew McKnight (Cassandra), Tyler Reed McKnight (Amanda), Logan Stevens McKnight (Payton), Breanna McKenzie Nelson, Christopher Jason McKnight, Riker Paul McKnight, Chad Decker McKnight and Adley Luna Nelson; and great-grandchildren: Marshall Allen McKnight and Jackson Paul McKnight. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the Pleasant View 5th Ward Chapel, 2400 North 1060 East, Provo, Utah. The family will receive friends from 12-12:45 p.m. prior to services. Graveside interment at Provo City Cemetery, 610 S. State Street, Provo, UT following the funeral. Family and friends are welcome.
