Teresa Duke Bishop, 66, passed away from complications of Alzheimer’s disease on Friday, July 15, 2016, in Orem, UT, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on April 19, 1950 to Mary Catherine and Paul Orrin Duke in Van Nuys, CA. As the youngest of four children, Teresa was adored by her older siblings and had fond memories of them. She would often reminisce of her time spent living in Hawaii with her older sister Ann.
In 1974 Teresa graduated from Utah State with a Bachelor’s degree in Communicative Disorders in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Audiology. Shortly after she moved to Hayward, CA, where she met her husband Paul Bishop. They were married in 1975 in the LDS Oakland Temple in Oakland, CA, where they were sealed for time and all eternity.
Teresa was a long-time resident of Newark, CA, where she was actively involved in her community. She was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she left her mark as a caring friend who put others first. Her service extended to her career as a special education teacher, with the Fremont and Hayward Unified School Districts, where she went above and beyond for the children she taught.
Her five children will remember their loving mother for her positive spirit even during life’s hardest trials. She had a great sense of humor which brought joy to many people’s lives. She was known for her strong writing abilities, and her children greatly wish she were here to proofread her obituary to correct any errors.
Teresa is survived by her loving husband, Paul Bishop; her children: Tiffany Dixon, Jared Bishop, Duke Bishop, Barry Bishop, and Summer Bowman; and her 13 grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her father, Paul Orrin Duke; mother, Mary Catherine Duke; and brother, Roger Duke.
Funeral services will be held on 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the Oak Hills 5th Ward Chapel, 1960 North 1500 East, Provo, Utah. Friends may call at the church Saturday morning from 9:30 until 10:45. Interment, East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at www.bergmortuary.com.
