Terry Lynn Herbert

Terry Lynn Herbert was born May 8, 1938, in Payson, Utah. He is the oldest child of John Lynden Herbert and Mary Eileen Dockstader Herbert. He was born in his grandparents' log cabin home. After his parents divorced, his mother married William L. Distefano.

Upon graduating from Provo High School in 1957, Terry joined the United States Air Force. He served in Mountain Home, Idaho, Guam, and England. In England, he met and married Judy Elizabeth Massengale Herbert on July 23, 1960. Terry and Judy met in the commissary base where Judy’s father was also serving, in High Wycombe, England. On Jan 9, 1983, Terry and Judy were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Provo, Utah Temple. They were blessed with four children, Johnny Lee Herbert, Gary Lynn Herbert, Kathryn Lynne Robinson, and Terry Jay Herbert. They are proud grandparents of 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Terry enjoyed being a flight instructor at Provo Airport for many years. He retired from Provo City after serving for 34 years as Water Master. He and his wife were blessed to serve a two-year church mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Zimbabwe, Africa. Terry loved the outdoors and spending time at his cabin in Tabiona, Utah.

Terry is survived by his wife, all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Robert H. Herbert and Michael Brent Herbert, and his sisters Lynda Helena Valdez and Maryam Distefano Fett.

Terry took a piece of our hearts with him. He is and will always be sorely missed.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 27, 2024, at the Sunset 10th Ward Chapel, 1402 South 570 West, Provo, Utah. The family will receive friends at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Thursday, December 26 from 6-8:00 p.m. and at the church Friday, from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services.
