Weston Ray Frandsen, born April 23, 1925 in Redmond, Utah. After a long, hard fought battle against aging he died on Monday, February 22, 2021 just 2 months short of his 96th birthday.
Weston lived in Redmond, Utah until the age of 12 when the family moved to Provo due to the depression for his father to find work to support the family. He graduated from BY High School and was drafted into the US Navy in 1943 where he served on the USS Botatorte, in the Pacific Theater as a signalman. When the war ended, he returned to Provo and began working for Geneva Steel in the Open Health doing shiftwork for 37 years.
He married Marie Fillmore; they were later divorced.
In 1956, he married Norma Deene Halladay and shortly after built a home in the “tree streets” neighborhood of Provo where they resided until her passing in 2013 and his need for assisted living in 2018.
Weston loved fishing and hunting and the great outdoors. For many years he spent 2 weeks of his vacation with his large group of friends from Geneva fishing and hunting elk in Joe’s Valley. He went on many fishing trips with good friends and neighbors. He fixed almost every one of his neighbor’s sprinkling system at one time or another.
Weston and Norma Deene had one son, Tim Hal, who died at birth and a daughter, Janet. They also have one grandson, Christopher, who they adored along with Chris’s wife, Casey, and 3 great grandsons who lovingly called him “Fafa”, Ethan, Parker and Carter who live in Southern California.
Weston’s will to live was unmatched. He had many health challenges over these past 3 years but valiantly fought back through all of them determined to see another day.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Deene, and infant son, Tim; his parents, Vance and Pearl; siblings, Calvin, Adonna, Russell, Sherrill. He is survived by his older brother, Richard; daughter, Janet, and beloved grandson and great-grandsons, Christopher his wife Casey, Ethan, Parker and Carter and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Thanks for the wonderful caregivers and heroes at Courtyard at Jamestown and to his beloved nurse, Jen, for the tender loving care provided to him, particularly during this past year when family visits were so limited.
There will be no formal service at this time due to Covid; however, plans will be made to celebrate Weston’s life at a later date when it’s safe to gather again. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.bergmortuary.com.
